Preparing a Technology Services EVP for Executive Leadership

The Challenge

An Executive Vice President within a global technology services organisation approached Hunston Grove at a pivotal stage in his career.

Having spent more than 20 years in the technology services industry across three major global organisations, he had established a strong reputation for operational delivery and commercial leadership. However, despite consistently delivering results, he felt he had reached a plateau. He recognised that progressing to Executive Committee level would require more than technical expertise and business performance.

He wanted to better understand how he was perceived by senior stakeholders, identify the factors limiting his progression and develop the executive presence required to operate at the very highest level.

Our Approach

Working with one of Hunston Grove’s executive coaches, we designed a tailored leadership development programme focused on the qualities expected of Executive Committee leaders.

The programme centred around four key areas:

  • Developing greater executive presence and confidence in high-profile internal and external settings.
  • Understanding how he was perceived by peers, senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders, and refining the behaviours that shaped those perceptions.
  • Enhancing communication style to become more concise, influential and strategic, particularly when presenting complex ideas to senior audiences.
  • Improving personal effectiveness, prioritisation and leadership routines to maximise both individual performance and the impact of his wider organisation.

Throughout the programme, practical coaching was combined with real-world application, allowing each session to be immediately embedded into day-to-day leadership situations.

The Outcome

Over the following months, the executive became noticeably more visible and influential within his organisation.

He developed a stronger executive presence, communicated with greater authority and strategic clarity, and built increased confidence in engaging with the most senior stakeholders across the business.

Alongside these behavioural changes, he introduced new ways of managing his time, priorities and leadership cadence, resulting in improved personal productivity and stronger commercial performance across his function.

Most importantly, he left the programme with a clear understanding of what differentiated high-performing executives from Executive Committee leaders, together with the practical tools and confidence to position himself for that next step.
